Trip Itinerary
We will go to the Tashichodzong, also known as "the castle of the auspicious religion," in the morning to see the memorial chorten for the late King Jigme Dorjee Wngchuk.
After breakfast in the morning, go to the pleasant and productive Punakha valley by crossing the breathtaking Dochula pass (3,100 m).
We will tour the famous Punakha Dzong, which served as the old capital of Bhutan, in the late afternoon. The beautiful Dzong is scattered between the Phochu and Mochu rivers.
Early-morning drives via the Yotola Pass to the valley of Bhumathang (3440 m). With its abundance of temples and holy sites, the valley is revered as a very sacred location by the Bhutanese.
We're going to drive to Mebartsho in the morning (the burning lake). This is the location where Guru Rimpoche buried some sacred objects that Terton Pema Lingpa later found. It is a holy place and a popular pilgrimage destination. Visit the Swiss farm to purchase delicious local cheese.
We are going to the Jakar Dzong in the afternoon (the castle of white birds). The administrative hub of Bhumathang is housed in this Dzong, which dates back to 1549. The most revered and well-known monastery in Bhumathang is Kurjey Lhakang.
We will go to Thimpu in the early morning via Tongsa and Wangdiphodrang.
We'll visit Drukgyel Dzong, Kyichu Lhakang, and the National Museum in the morning.
Flying back to Kathmandu
