Highlights

Overview

In the Annapurna region, the Nar Phu Valley Trek is extremely challenging. Thorong La (5,416 m/17,770 ft) and Kang La (5,306 m/17,408 ft) are the two high passes that the journey crosses. Additionally, you will be able to see Muktinath Temple (3,710 m/12,172 ft), one of the important pilgrimage sites for both Hindus and Buddhists, as well as the Kali Gandaki Canyon, the deepest gorge in the world (2,520 m/8,270 ft). Additionally, the 16-day Nar Phu Valley Trek offers breath-taking mountain views and stunning scenery.

You can interact with the locals of these beautiful regions on the Nar Phu Valley Trek. The walk is made more fascinating by their ancient culture and straightforward way of life. While trekking, we will encounter a large number of stupas, chortens, and prayer wheels. One of the oldest monasteries in the Nar Phu Valley that you can visit is Tashi Lhakhang Gompa (4,150 m/13,616 ft). Two beautiful valleys—Nar Phu Valley and Manang Valley—are explored on the Nar Phu Valley Trek with Thorong La Pass. You can experience the excitement of high-altitude walking on the trek, which ascends more than 5,000 meters. The Nar Phu Valley Trek trail features numerous curves, ascents, and descents. The trail winds across rocky terrain, verdant meadows, and woodlands.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrived in Kathmandu

On your arrival day, our representative will meet you at Tribhuvan International Airport and accompany you to your accommodation. The rest of the day is free for you to relax. We'll also introduce you to your trekking guide. We recommend looking through your kit and purchasing any last-minute supplies. Later that evening, our company will provide a welcome meal for you.

Day 2 : Preparation day for Trekking

Treks to Nar-Phu need a special permit. For the Nar-Phu Trek permit, we require an original passport and two passport-size pictures. A permit can only be obtained during working days. We can arrange tours to historic sites like Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square if you're interested in a guided day tour (It costs extra ).

Day 3 : Drive from Kathmandu to Dharapani

From Kathmandu to Dharapani, we initially drive through the beautiful Nepali countryside, with lovely hills as a backdrop and isolated waterfalls and woods around. When you get to Dharapani, you can wander around the community while we check you into a basic lodge where we'll spend the night.

Day 4 : Trek from Dharapani to Koto

Although it is on a mules' route that is very well paved, the scenery we will see is quite different. We will be leaving the bustle of the villages below us and ascending above the tree line when we reach an altitude of around 2500 m. With a clear sky, we will have unmatched views of the Manaslu range. We'll stop for a quick tea break at Lata Manang before moving on to Koto.

Day 5 : Trek from Koto to Meta

We'll start the day by enrolling at the government checkpoint and then continue on our journey to Dharmasala, our first destination. The route gradually climbs to Meta as it passes through woodlands and across suspension bridges. Along with the difference in the environment, the residents' language and culture also reflect the Tibetan plateau. Watch the sunset over the far-off peaks of the Annapurna range during the evening.

Day 6 : Trek from Meta to Phu

We trek far into the heartland of old Tibet. It was prohibited to enter these locations until recently. You will be amazed by the serenity of the location as we walk alongside a few mani shortens along the riverbank. We gradually climb up into the Phu Valley, where you will see stunning cliffs and rock formations. Within a couple of hours, we will reach Phu village, which is situated on a rock face and encircled by a lovely green valley. Visit the historic Buddhist monastery perched atop the hill if you're up for another quick hike, or just take in the spectacular views.

Day 7 : Trek from Phu to Nar

After breakfast, we'll travel from Phu to Khyang before continuing to Nar. Along the trek, we will pass by several breathtaking gorges and waterfalls and catch a sight of the towering Pisang mountain. The ascent to Nar is a difficult yet spectacular segment.

Day 8 : Exploration of the Nar Valley

With a history that dates back to the 11th century B.C., the settlements of Nar and the surrounding area were formerly totally uninhabited. The day will be spent learning about the Nar village's culture and way of life, as well as taking in some of the land's spirits while walking through the valley.

Day 9 : Trek To Ngawal from Nar via Kang La

This day will be the most difficult of the walk, but it will also provide some of the best views and bragging rights for reaching above 5000 m. We begin the day early and slowly and steadily. We get a wonderful view of Pisang, Annapurna II, Gangapurna, and Tilicho peaks as we reach the halfway point. We pass the Kang La and descend for several hours to Ngawal. If we're lucky, we might see Himalayan mountain goats or the elusive snow leopard.

Day 10 : Trek from Ngwal to Manang

We descend from Ngwal, leaving the Tibetan plateau behind, and are greeted by the Annapurna Valley valleys. We stop at Braga to see the spectacular monastery and take in the views of the Annapurna range's snow-capped peaks. Before arriving in Manang, we must do a short climb. Manang is a very large village with amenities, so spend some time exploring and stocking up on personal needs.

Day 11 : Trek to Letdar from Manang

We trek to Tenki first before attempting the hard ascent to Letdar on our way to our second high pass, Thorong La. The trek follows steep hills, providing another opportunity to see Himalayan blue sheep. Take some time to relax when you get to Letdar because the quick ascent may trigger altitude sickness.

Day 12 : Trek from Letdar to Thorang High Camp

We'll leave early from Letdar. This portion ascends and dips several times before reaching the Marsyangdi River. Following a quick lunch, we'll continue on the summit path to Thorong High Camp. Please keep an eye out for any signs of altitude sickness as you relax. Turn in early for our try on Thorong La the next day.

Day 13 : Trek from Thorang High Camp to Muktinath and Drive to Jomsom

As we leave the High Camp, we will watch the sunrise over the peaks of Gangapurna, Annapurna, Thorong, and Khatung Kang. We will reach the top of the Thorong La Pass (5416m.|17769ft.) and then walk down to Muktinath (3800m.|12467ft.), which will take around 5 hours. Muktinath is a spiritually significant village for Hindus and Buddhists alike. There are various temples and shrines to visit as a pilgrimage site before taking a local jeep for an hour's trip to the lovely village of Jomsom (2715 m [8907 ft]).

Day 14 : Flight from Jomsom to Pokhara

We will take a 25-minute flight to get from Jomsom to Pokhara. At Pokhara, we'll stay the night in a hotel. If you'd like, we can arrange a trip for you to explore Pokhara.

Day 15 : Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu by Tourist Bus

It is a 7:30 a.m. bus ride from Pokhara to Kathmandu, followed by a 6:00 p.m. farewell dinner with our team. We will listen to your experience of your trek while having dinner.
