9 Days Upper Mustang Tour

On another day in Kathmandu, after breakfast, our tour guide will take you up to go sightseeing. You will be able to learn about notable monuments, culture, and art. The tour guide will take you to the following attractions: Pashupatinath Temple, Shyambhu Nath Stupa, Boudhanath Stupa, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square.

Having breakfast, we will take a 25-minute flight to Pokhara. You can take in the stunning Himalayan beauty as you fly to Pokhara. When we arrive in Pokhara, we will check into our hotel, eat lunch, and then, if you like, rest. Otherwise, you can go boating on Phew Lake and take a midnight walking tour of Pokhara's lakefront. Explore, rest, and eat dinner near the stunning Lake Fewa.

We will fly from Pokhara to Jomsom in the early morning, which will take approximately 25 minutes. We will next go by jeep from Jomsom to Kagbeni and the sacred sanctuary of Muktinath, which features 108 gushing water taps dedicated to Lord Vishnu. After seeing Jal Devi, where you can watch a fire light itself (using natural gas), you will go to Kagbeni for the night, followed by the adjacent town of Muktinath, the Buddhist monastery at Jharkot with beautiful views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Tukuche Peak, and the village of Jharkot.

Following breakfast, we will have a tour of the Kagbeni Monastery. Kagbeni is famed for its Pitri-Puja, also known as Pitri-Moksastala, which is performed to save ancestors' lost souls from hell and guide them to heaven, blessing the entire family. Only after submitting them with a special permit at the checkpoint could we enter the Upper Mustang area, which had already been scheduled by our office staff.

To start, drive a Jeep across the Kaligandaki River close to Chhusang Village. From there, drive uphill to the following villages: Chella, Samar, Syangboche, Bhina, Ghiling, and lastly, Ghami. The daytime views from Syngboche and surrounding areas will be breathtaking today. You are on a discovery adventure, so park your Jeep wherever you like and take pictures. Along with Tibetan culture, you'll see local activities, farmer's homes with yaks, and house caravans.

Today, you will have the opportunity to tour a number of significant monasteries, such as the Charang Monastery in Lo-mang Thang City, Mustang's Lo Gager Ghar Gompa, "Jampa Gompa," the oldest monastery known as "God House," a large, red assembly hall and gompa built in the late 15th century, and "Chodey Gompa," which is the city's current center and the location of a monastic museum. You will also witness the landscape from and surrounding Wonder Mountain, as well as domestic yak and cow caravans.

Today, after breakfast, you will go to the Chhoser sky caves, Namgyal Gompa, and Mustang's nearly 3,000-year-old Shija Jhong cave, which has been studied by international archaeologists. Near Chhoser, there exist more caverns that have been utilized for living, meditation, and even interment. After your tour of the neighborhood, you'll take a jeep back to the guesthouse.

Today, we plan to return to Jomsom by car. They traveled by a number of neighboring villages, the Kaligandaki River, monasteries, and Buddhist stupas. In Jomsom, you can spend an evening exploring the local market.

Flight back to Pokhara in the early morning. Rest in Pokhara, have lunch, and then fly back to Kathmandu, or stay in Pokhara longer.
