The Buddhist monasteries of Drepung, which were once the biggest in the nation and are a genuine treasure trove of architectural marvels, are where it all comes to a head on a parched plateau. The beautiful palaces of the Dalai Lama, the Norbulingka (summer palace), and the Potala, as well as the Jokhang, a spiritual center (traditional seat).
